Hi guys, this is (obviously, I hope) a portrait of Hellboy. I´ve tried to use the anatomical proportions of the Mike Mignola´s original creature, but in a realistic way. This is my second illustration using PainterX and I´m quite proud of the result. I love Painter and this will be my mainly tool from now on. I´ve used the acrylics in Painter X and some texture brushes in Photoshop CS3 using a Wacom Cintiq 12WX. I´ll post an image explaining the complete process in the comments. I hope you like it. Comments and critics are most welcome.
Oh, but perhaps you should include maybe the tip or a curl of his tail at some point if you do a future piece with this guy in. He does seem to wave it around quite a lot.
Well, I love Hellboy for the feel, pace and humour of the comics. It is an interesting approach you took, trying to keep the length of the face in as Mignola did originally. To be honest, I think this portrayal of Hellboy is more realistic than the movie version. To me, his face just seems right and certainly ugly enough (I mean that in a good way, Hellboy was never meant to be pretty or handsome).
As for the "No Humans Allowed" sign, is that a touch from "District 9"? Whatever the reason, it works, I laughed aloud when I saw it along with the neon sign, as did my partner. Its actually interesting to see a reincarnation of Hellboy without the huge shoulders and over emphasised upper body build.
I think this piece works very well and deserves a big favourite.
Oh I recognize this! I faved it when you did it. I thought I recognized your style! You know a piece of art is great when you go to fav it and find out you already did *grin*
As this piece is though, don't change a thing.
